Kodama is a growing, venture capital-backed technology company based in Sonora, CA. We are improving forest thinning operations to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires and improve climate resilience. We're tackling this problem end-to-end by automating machinery, optimizing on-the-ground operations, and developing new methods of carbon storage.

The Role

We are looking for a skilled software engineer to join our dynamic team. As a key member, you will play a vital role in advancing our mission to revolutionize forest management technology and mitigate the risk of catastrophic wildfires.

Ideal candidates are generalists with experience across the robotics stack. As a member of Kodama's early team, you’ll work on a dynamic and broad set of engineering challenges and will be given significant ownership and responsibility.

Please note that travel to our field sites is expected as part of this role.

What You Will Do 

• Develop robotics and teleoperation software tailored for heavy equipment in forestry management.
• Collaborate within an agile development environment, working closely with our engineering team to tackle diverse engineering challenges.
• Address network-centric challenges to ensure seamless communication and data processing across the system.

Basic Qualifications

• Prior experience developing software for robotic systems
• Experience and willingness to work on a dynamic and broad set of engineering problems
• Excellent communicator, able to create effective artifacts, such as block diagrams, design documents, and requirements, to enable teams to collaborate on complex products and drive solutions 
• Experience with C++ and Python
• 7+ years experience as a software engineer
• BS in Robotics, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or equivalent

Bonus Point Qualifications 

• Experience with ROS2
• Experience in perception, controls, or navigation
• Knowledge of computer networking
• Technical breadth, capable of tackling a range of engineering challenges.
• Cloud and networking experience is desirable given the nature of the challenges faced.
• Comfortable with hardware-software integration.
