Field Technician
Kodama Systems is a small forestry company based in Sonora, CA improving forest thinning operations and utilizing waste biomass. We’re looking for a hard-working, detail-oriented individual to assist with the development, testing, and implementation of our machinery, among other tasks on thinning sites. Ideal candidates enjoy the outdoors, problem-solving, and working with their hands. This is a great role for someone who is looking to develop or expand on mechanical competencies and is interested in heavy equipment/forest operations.
Job Type: Temporary/Seasonal with potential for full-time (at – will)
Compensation: $19-25/hr, depending upon experience
Required Experience: 1-2 years of education and/or working experience.
Location: Area around Stanislaus National Forest
Travel: Required to job sites and will be re-imbursed for gas according to company policies.
Hours: Up to 40 hrs per week, subject to change
Required: Valid Driver’s License
Duties:
Daily checks and maintenance of machinery and tools
Operating field equipment including a skidder, pick-up trucks on dirt roads, and tow-behind communication trailers
Troubleshooting and repairing small engines, heavy equipment, and/or vehicles.
Managing the daily set-up and breakdown of project site logistics
Record-keeping, scouting and note-taking during forest surveys and engineering tests
Hiking and working in forested area, sometimes austere environments
Occasionally lifting heavy objects <50lbs alone, and >50lbs using proper techniques
Communicating clearly with Operations team to address daily tasks
Follow company guidelines and safety protocols
Desired knowledge:
Heavy equipment operation and maintenance
General electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems
Forestry and logging operations
Trailering and towing
Power and hand tools
Bonus:
First Aid/CPR/First responder certifications
Certifications in fields related to automotive mechanics and heavy equipment operation
Chainsaw and other forest or wildland fire operations certifications
Ability to speak Spanish
Willingness to travel or relocate outside of Tuolumne County
