Field Technician
Kodama Systems is a small forestry company based in Sonora, CA improving forest thinning operations and utilizing waste biomass. We’re looking for a motivated individual to assist with the development, testing, and implementation of novel forms of forest machinery. Ideal candidates enjoy the outdoors, problem-solving, and working with their hands. This is a great role for someone who is looking to develop or expand their mechanical competencies and is interested in the intersection of technology and forest operations.
Education or Experience: 1-2 years of education and/or working experience
Location: Area around Stanislaus National Forest
Travel: Required to job sites, mileage reimbursement included
Hours: Up to 40 hrs per week, subject to change
Required: Valid Driver’s License
Duties:
- Operating a remote controlled and semi-autonomous log skidder
- Deploying and troubleshooting novel technology related to autonomous heavy machinery, site-connectivity, and novel logging systems
- Coordinate operational schedules with company personnel and loggers
- Organize and maintain a hardware and tool inventory
- Daily checks and maintenance of heavy machinery and tools
- Driving pick-up trucks on dirt roads and trailering
- Troubleshooting and repairing small engines, heavy equipment, and/or vehicles.
- Manage the daily set-up and breakdown of a project site and carry out associated logistics
- Field record-keeping and note-taking to aid in technology development
- Hiking and working in a forested area, often in austere environments
- Occasionally lifting heavy objects
- Clearly communicating on the ground scenarios to remote personnel
- Follow and contribute to company guidelines and safety protocols
- Troubleshoot site connectivity/wifi
Desired knowledge:
- Heavy equipment operation and maintenance
- General electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic system competencies
- Knowledge of forest or agricultural operations
- Demonstrated experience maintaining a calendar and coordinating groups of people
- Trailering and towing
- Experience operating power tools
Bonus:
- First Aid/CPR/First responder certifications
- Demonstrated ability to work safely on a construction site, forest, factory, or mill
- Certifications related to automotive mechanics, welding, metal fabrication, OSHA workplace, or heavy equipment operation
- Chainsaw and other forest or wildland fire operations certifications
- Ability to speak Spanish
- Willingness to travel or relocate based on needs of the company
