Kodama Systems is a growing, venture capital-backed technology company based in Sonora, CA.  We are improving forest thinning operations and utilizing waste biomass to prevent catastrophic wildfires.  Kodama is looking for a hard-working, detail-oriented individual to assist with developing, testing, and implementing autonomous forestry equipment. Forest Robotics Engineer Co-op

Responsibilities:

  • Developing robotics systems for forestry in an agile development environment
  • Following company safety protocols during testing and project implementation
  • Assisting in-forest activities such as scouting, spotting, and surveying
  • Perform daily checks and maintenance of equipment
  • Collaborating with the team on technology modifications and project management
  • Installing hardware, routing cables, and calibrating sensors
  • Utilize company vehicles and tools, including pick-up trucks, radios, saws and drills
  • Working with the team to repair sensors, cameras and hard-wired system controls 
  • Hiking and working in forested areas

Basic Qualifications:

  • Traveling to and residing in rural California, about 3 hours from San Francisco for the duration of co-op
  • Understand electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems 
  • Excellent communicator, able to create compelling artifacts, such as block diagrams, design documents, and requirements, to enable teams to collaborate on products and drive solutions
  • Ability to resolve issues in creative, efficient, and practical ways
  • Working towards BS in Robotics, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or equivalent

Bonus points: 

  • Previous autonomous vehicle or robotics co-op experience
  • Software and hardware test development
  • Creating software hardware in the loop integration and unit tests
  • Linux and command line 
  • Ethernet networking (e.g. IP configuration) 
  • Robot Operating System (ROS), Gazebo, and Bazel 
  • First Aid / CPR / first responder certifications 
  • Ability to speak Spanish
